Introduction

Robert is the first-born child of Anna and Ron Groen. In 1993 they welcomed his brother Michiel, and in 1995 sister Eva was born. In 1996 the whole family moved to Richmond, Texas, because of Ron’s work.

As a child, Robert was full of energy, and at the age of 4 he participated in the various sports activities available at the YMCA in Rosenberg, Texas, including soccer, basketball and swimming. Later, after they had moved back to The Netherlands (1999), he practiced various sports intensively during elementary school, such as martial arts, soccer and tennis. Michiel and Eva, too, are keen sports players – something which is highly supported and stimulated by both parents, especially by dad Ron, who was formerly a professional cyclist.

School

Robert completed both elementary and high school easily. Because he received the maximum possible score on the standard Cito test (550 points; top 1% in the nation) when finishing elementary school, he qualified for VWO, which is the highest level of high school education available in the Netherlands. Now in his final year at Het Baarnsch Lyceum, from which the Dutch Queen Beatrix graduated, Robert is especially interested in economics. Anticipating the choice for a university major in economics, he has taken the micro- and macro economics AP exams in his junior year, scoring a 5 on both.

Tennis and Academics

Robert has always wanted to return to the United States. Now that he will be graduating in June of 2010, he is determined to do his best to earn the necessary scholarships to begin a study in the US at a university that he will be able to represent by playing on the college tennis team.
Robert intends to finish his full study program in the US and is eagerly looking forward to the combination of academic study and the continued improvement of his game through intensive practice and playing in tennis matches.
